Odd Scholarships
Anyone looking at the cost of higher education can see that the expense of even one semester of college courses can be an unbelievable financial burden. Luckily for us, there are un-numbered of odd and weird scholarships out there for the taking. You just need to know where to look.
Before getting into weird and unusual scholarships, let’s first talk about where to look for scholarships in general. You would be surprised that 10’s of thousands of companies, clubs, and organizations alike have scholarship programs. You just need to contact them and ask! There are scholarships like Pepsi Scholarships, David Letterman Scholarships, Bill Gates Scholarships…all the way to some like Wendy’s, McDonald’s and KFC scholarships…Other places to look for more obscure or odd scholarships are the park districts, religious institutions and other local businesses in an area…Sometimes these types of places have small 500-$1000 dollars scholarships, but get a bunch of them and they can really add up…Look at it as the beginning of the new college bound you…take charge and pick up the phone and make a few phone calls. I would start with family and friends first and foremost. Make sure everyone you know that you are looking for scholarships for college and to inquire at there businesses etc…You would truly be surprised how many companies have small scholarships. There was one semester I found out through my mother that her business had a $500 dollar one time only scholarship for college upperclassmen (juniors or seniors). I not only won the scholarship, I was the only one who applied…spring semester books, paid for…
So what about some weird or odd scholarships? Well there are tall people and short people scholarships as well…The scholarship for short people is somewhat misunderstood, being that is meant for people with true short stature (i.e.: dwarfism etc)…How ever it does exist, and funnily enough, your state may have a scholarship or even the university you are wanting to attend? Your specific university may be offering scholarships for short people from Illinois for example because they feel like their student body doesn’t have enough of this type of student? You just need to ask the financial aid person responsible for you at your university and they should be able to help you with your search.
